SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Trailing 2-0, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team dug deep to defeat CCAA opponent San Francisco State in five sets (22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators jumped out to a 19-11 lead in the opening set before CSUSM rallied back to close the gap to 23-20.
- Back-to-back kills by Doering skewed SF State's set point before Drew Morris clinched it at 25-22.
- The second set saw 11 ties and four lead changes before the Gators knocked off nine unanswered points and cruised to a 25-16 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- The Cougars did not go quietly into the night as CSUSM found their fire, taking an early 7-3 lead in the third set.
- After closing in at 19-18, CSUSM responded with three consecutive points before taking a 25-22 win.
- CSUSM led wire-to-wire in the fourth set, taking a quick 7-0 lead and never allowing the Gators within five points for remainder of the set.
- With a 25-17 fourth-set win, the Cougars forced a fifth set against the Gators.
- In the fifth set, CSUSM once again took an early lead at 4-0.
- The Cougars held the lead with the Gators on their heels until a block by SF State's Trinity Barr and Bekah Roth made it 13-all.
- Back-to-back SF State attack errors gave CSUSM the win at 15-13.
