SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The RV/NR Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (4-2, 2-1 CCAA) dropped a hard-fought 64-56 CCAA decision to Cal State East Bay (7-1, 3-0 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After giving up the first bucket of the game, CSUSM went on a 14-0 run.
- The Cougars reached the bonus before the 6:45 mark of the first quarter, resulting in five made free throws in the first 10 minutes.
- CSUSM had a 16-9 lead over the Pioneers after the first quarter.
- The Cougars' first bucket of the second quarter was a 3-pointer by Sydney Buckley at the seven-minute mark to make it 19-11. Dynnah Buckner followed it with her own 3-pointer the next time down the court to give CSUSM a 22-11 lead.
- The Pioneers went on a 14-0 run to take a 26-24 lead with 35 seconds remaining.
- Dynnah Buckner got a second-chance layup at the buzzer to even the game at 26-all at halftime.
- A Vasquez layup at the 4:44 mark of the third quarter evened the game at 38-all.
- A 3-pointer by Grace Campbell put East Bay back on top at 43-42 with 1:30 left in the third quarter.
- Two Dynnah Buckner free throws gave CSUSM a 44-43 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
- A pair of made free throws by Akayla Hackson, her first points of the game, with 33.7 seconds remaining cut the Pioneer lead to 56-54.
- After being fouled on a 3-pointer, Hackson made the first two free throws to close the gap to 57-56 with 23.3 seconds.
- East Bay secured the win with six unanswered points in the final 21 seconds.

FAST BREAKS
- CSUSM saw its longest CCAA regular-season win streak of 11 games come to an end which dated back to the 2019-20 season when the Cougars won a share of the CCAA regular-season title against UC San Diego.
- Vasquez registered her third double-double of the season with 15 points and a season-best 15 rebounds.
- The Cougars shot a season-low 27.6% (16-of-58) from the field and 25.0% (5-of-20) from beyond the arc.
- Buckley's 10 points and six rebounds were the most she's had this season.

CSUSM will be back in action next Thursday when the Cougars travel to Cal State Monterey Bay for a 5:30 p.m. game.
