CSUSM Falls in Four to No. 21 CPP on Senior Day

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in four sets (25-19, 17-25, 19-25, 20-25) to visiting No. 21 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

Prior to the match, CSUSM honored its two seniors – Grecia Cordero-Barr and Kassy Doering – with CSUSM President Dr. Ellen Neufeldt and CSUSM Director of Athletics Jennifer Milo in attendance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening set, the Cougars took a 16-15 lead over the Broncos with a block by Ridgeway and Mackenzie Jennings.
  • An ace by Adams gave CSUSM a 20-19 lead, forcing CPP to take its second timeout.
  • CSUSM came out of the timeout on fire, rattling off five unanswered points, to take the first set at 25-19.
  • The first set consisted of 15 ties and seven lead changes.
  • The Broncos jumped out to a 16-10 lead in the second set and went on to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 win.
  • A Brooke Sherman dig followed by a pass set by Doering set up Adams to crush the ball down the line to give CSUSM a 7-6 lead in the third set.
  • The Cougars needed to regroup with a timeout after CPP went up 17-14 in the third set.
  • The Broncos took a 25-19 win in the fourth set to go up 2-1 in the match.
  • After five tied scores, CPP steadily pulled away at the 12-all mark in the fourth set.
  • The Broncos went on to win the final set at 25-20 to clinch the match victory.

  • CSUSM drops to 12-10 on the season and 9-7 in CCAA action.  
  • CPP moves up to 20-3 overall and 13-3 in conference play.  
  • The Broncos have already punched their ticket to the CCAA Tournament taking place Nov. 18-20 at Cal State San Bernardino.
