CSUSM Set for Season Finale at CSUSB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In its final game of the 2021 season, the Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team (6-5-3, 2-5-3 CCAA) will travel to Cal State San Bernardino (4-10-2, 2-6-2 CCAA) to face the Coyotes on Thursday at 2 p.m.

LAST WEEKEND

  • The Cougars chalked up a 1-0 win against Cal State Monterey Bay last Friday thanks to a 77th-minute goal by Alyssa Pigoni – snapping a four-game scoreless streak.
  • CSUSM keeper Allison Marcure broke CSUSM’s single-game record for saves with 11. The previous record of 10 was set by Jane Drury in 2007.
  • In its final home game on Sunday, CSUSM took a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
  • Chloe King scored her team-leading third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 74th minute.
  • The Cougars honored 10 seniors prior to the game.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

  • CSUSM’s goals-against average of .603 goals per game ranks 26th nationally and fourth in the CCAA.
  • The Cougars’ save percentage of .886 ranks seventh nationally and second in the conference.
  • CSUSM’s shutout percentage of .571 ranks 26th in Division II.
  • Allison Marcure’s 4.93 saves per game are the second most in the CCAA while her eight shutouts rank 14th nationally.
  • With 69 saves for the season, Marcure is eight away from tying the CSUSM single-season record.

ENDING THE SEASON AT CSUSB

  • Also eliminated from postseason contention, the Coyotes are 10th in the CCAA standings with eight points.
  • This past weekend, CSUSB won 2-1 against Cal State Dominguez Hills before a 0-0 tie against Cal State Monterey Bay.
  • The Coyotes are averaging 6.31 saves per game – the most in the CCAA and 52nd most in Division II.
  • CSUSB’s scoring offense of .69 goals per game ranks dead last in the conference.
  • The Coyotes are allowing 1.424 goals per game – 11th most in the league.
  • Coyote keeper Carly Luna leads the CCAA with 89 saves for the season.
  • Vidalia Abarca is tied for the most goals in the CCAA with six.
  • CSUSM is 4-0-4 in the all-time series against CSUSB and is 1-0-2 when playing in San Bernardino.
  • The Cougars have won the last four meetings against the Coyotes, including a 2-0 victory in non-conference play at The Cage earlier this season.

COUGAR OUTLOOK

  • CSUSM has 12 returners from its 2019 squad, including Hannah Arcala who tallied one goal and a team-leading 28 shots.
  • With 2020 and 2021 newcomers combined, the Cougars have 16 players wearing a CSUSM uniform on the field for the first time.
  • The Cougars tied for eighth in the 2021 CCAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll with Cal State Monterey Bay and Humboldt State.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his eighth year in charge of the women's program and 16th overall at CSUSM.
  • Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
  • Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
  • As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 47-43-28 (.517) for his career with the Cougars.
