Cougars Fall in CCAA Home Opener to No. 13 Sonoma State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – After recording three consecutive shutouts, the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team saw its streak come to an end on Friday as the Cougars fell 2-0 to visiting No. 13 Sonoma State at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Seawolves had an 8-3 shot advantage in the first half while Cougar keeper Allison Marcure made four saves.
  • On a misplayed pass into the box, SSU's Ketner picked up the loose ball on the left side. After getting away from the CSUSM defenders with a couple of dribbles to her right, Ketner put a shot into the back right corner and gave SSU a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.
  • Receiving a pass in the box from the far-right side by the Seawolves' Silva, Falk took control eight yards in front of the Cougar keeper and put the ball into the right side of the goal to give SSU a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute.

QUICK KICKS
  • The Cougars fall to 4-1-2 (0-1-2 CCAA) on the year while SSU improves to 8-1-0 (3-0-0 CCAA). 
  • SSU ended the game with a 14-4 shot advantage while holding CSUSM to one shot in the second half.
  • The Seawolves held the upper hand for corner kicks at 6-1.
  • While only controlling the ball for 42% of the game, the Cougars spent 51% of their time of possession in Seawolf territory.
  • CSUSM is still winless and scoreless against SSU at 0-4.
