Cougars Earn First CCAA Win with 1-0 Victory Over SF State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team collected its first CCAA victory on Sunday with a 1-0 win over visiting San Francisco State at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM led the first half with a 4-3 shot advantage while both teams put two shots on goal.
  • The Cougars broke up the scoreless affair in 69th minute. Kelley made a long pass from the left sideline to Sanchez, who was near the right post. Sanchez connected with a header and sliced the ball into the right side of the goal to put CSUSM up 1-0 with her first career goal.
     
QUICK KICKS
  • The Cougars improve to 5-1-2 (1-1-2 CCAA) on the year while SF State drops to 4-6-1 (2-1-1 CCAA). 
  • With the victory, CSUSM has recorded back-to-back wins over the Gators to move the all-time series to 3-3-2.
  • Sanchez's goal broke up a three-game scoreless streak for CSUSM.
  • Cougar keeper Allison Marcure posted her sixth shutout of the season – tying her for the seventh most in a single season at CSUSM.
  • This is first time since 2011 that CSUSM has posted six shutouts in its first eight games.
  • CSUSM ended the game with the advantage in shots (9-5), shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (5-0).
  • The Cougars held possession for 53% of the game while spending 59% of their time in Gator territory.
  • CSUSM is now 4-1 at home this season.
  • With nine goals scored on the year, the Cougars have now scored more goals than they did in all of 2019.
  • Four games into CCAA play, the Cougars are now tied with Stanislaus State for sixth place in the conference standings with five points.
