SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss in double overtime against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Toros took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of action. Rubio-Martinez sent a ball into the box from the left side and found Simones, who headed the ball into the left side of the goal from six yards away on the right side.
- After CSUSM's Claire Hernandez was fouled at the top of the box on the left side, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick. King took the shot for CSUSM and put the ball into the lower left portion of the net to knot the game at 1-1 in the 74th minute.
- Still tied 1-1, the game went into its first overtime period where both teams put a shot on goal, but none found their way into the back of the net.
- In the 106th minute, CSUSM was whistled for a foul in the box. Taking the penalty kick for the Toros, Kaemerle put the ball into the top right corner of the goal to give CSUDH a 2-1 victory.

- CSUSM dropped to 6-5-3 (2-5-3 CCAA) while CSUDH improved to 5-11-0 (2-8-0 CCAA).
- Both sides took nine shots for the match, but the Toros had the edge for shots on goal at 6-4.
- CSUSM held possession for 59% of the game and had an 8-3 upper hand on corner kicks.
- King led the Cougars with three shots and two shots on goal.
- King's goal was her team-leading third of the season.
- This was CSUSM second consecutive 2-1 loss to CSUDH in CCAA play. The Cougars won 1-0 against the Toros earlier this season in non-conference action.
- This was the third double-overtime game in the series.
- CSUSM and CSUDH are now tied at 5-5-1 in the all-time series.

Now eliminated from postseason contention, the Cougars will play their final game of 2021 on Thursday at Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Premier Field.
