Cougars Knock Off Otters, 1-0

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In its next-to-last home game of 2021, the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team celebrated a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday afternoon at The Cage.

GOALS
CSUSM – 77' Alyssa Pigoni (Unassisted)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first 45 minutes came and went as the first half remained scoreless. The Otters led the period in shots (5-2), shots on goal (4-2) and corners (4-0) while holding possession for 62% of the half.
  • Still scoreless heading into the 77th minute, CSUSM's Hunter Morton made her way into CSUMB territory with possession. Morton made a pass to Pigoni at the top of the box, but the ball was intercepted by the Otters. As CSUMB turned to head back down field with the ball, Pigoni regained possession from an Otter defender. She took a shot from just outside the top of the box and found paydirt as the ball sailed into the top right corner of the goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
