CSUSM to Wrap Up Home Schedule Against Monterey Bay, Dominguez Hills

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team (5-4-3, 1-4-3 CCAA) will play its final two home games of the 2021 regular season this weekend as it faces Cal State Monterey Bay (7-4-3, 4-3-1 CCAA) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-10-0, 1-7-0 CCAA) on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Prior to its final home contest against the Toros, CSUSM will honor its 10 seniors: Sarah Aragon, Hannah Arcala, Yesenia Betancourt, Emilee Garrett, Elin Hedstroem, Adria Jamieson, Ashleigh Peterson, Alyssa Pigoni, Ashley Roskelly and Alyssa Sanchez.

LAST WEEKEND

  • The Cougars went 0-1-1 last weekend with a 1-0 loss at Stanislaus State before earning a point on a scoreless draw at second-place Cal State East Bay.
  • With six points, the Cougars currently sit ninth in the CCAA standings.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

  • CSUSM keeper Allison Marcure ended the weekend with 54 saves, tying for the third most in a single season at CSUSM.
  • Marcure’s seventh shutout is tied for the fifth most in a single season.
  • CSUSM has the eighth-best save percentage in Division II and leads the CCAA at .887.
  • The Cougars’ shutout percentage of .583 ranks 27th nationally.
  • Marcure leads the CCAA and ranks 13th for save percentage at .885.
  • CSUSM’s goals-against average ranks 20th nationally and third in the CCAA at .549 goals allowed per game.

SENIOR DAY AGAINS THE TOROS

  • The Toros enter the weekend sitting in 11th place with three points.
  • CSUDH is on a five-game skid and has lost seven of its last eight.
  • The Toros will travel to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday before heading over to San Marcos.
  • CSUDH fell 3-1 to Cal State LA before taking a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona last weekend.
  • The Toros have the worst save percentage in the CCAA at .692 and rank 11th for goals allowed per game at 1.495.
  • CSUDH sits eighth or worse in all relevant statistical categories among CCAA institutions.
  • The Toros have three players that have each scored a team-high three goals this season in Nia Thompson, Patricia Rubio-Martinez and Holly Kaemerle while Thompson leads the team in total points with nine.

COUGAR OUTLOOK

  • CSUSM has 12 returners from its 2019 squad, including Hannah Arcala who tallied one goal and a team-leading 28 shots.
  • With 2020 and 2021 newcomers combined, the Cougars have 16 players wearing a CSUSM uniform on the field for the first time.
  • The Cougars tied for eighth in the 2021 CCAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll with Cal State Monterey Bay and Humboldt State.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his eighth year in charge of the women's program and 16th overall at CSUSM.
  • Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
  • Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
  • As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 46-42-28 (.517) for his career with the Cougars.
