CSUSM Tops Toros in Four

CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team collected its fifth consecutive win over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Saturday night with a four-set CCAA victory (25-14, 15-25, 25-19, 25-17) in the Torodome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got off to a slow start, finding themselves trailing 4-1 in the opening set.
  • CSUSM responded with a 7-1 run, capped by a Stephanie Adams block, and held the lead until the end to take the first set at 25-14.
  • The Cougars recorded a .531 hitting percentage (18k-1e-31ta) in the first set.
  • The Toros broke away at the 8-all mark with an 11-2 run in the second set. 
  • CSUSM made 13 errors in the second set, falling 25-15 to even the match 1-1.
  • The third set consisted of nine ties and five lead changes. 
  • The turning point of the third frame came at the 17-all mark when a block by Mackenzie Jennings and Kiora Ridgeway sparked a 4-0 run. 
  • CSUSM closed out the third set with a kill by Doering to retake the lead in the match at 2-1 with a 25-19 win. 
  • A 7-0 run in the fourth set gave the Cougars a 14-7 lead. 
  • Back-to-back aces by Turner gave CSUSM a 21-11 lead in the fourth frame. 
  • CSUSM cruised to a 25-17 fourth-set victory to clinch the match victory.

  • The Cougars improve to 10-8 overall and 7-5 in CCAA action.
  • The Toros fall to 1-16 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.
  • One of CSUDH's conference wins was due to a Cal State Monterey Bay forfeit due to COVID-19 protocol. The forfeit is not counted towards the Toros' overall record.
  • CSUSM's .531 clip is the Cougars' highest hitting percentage in a set this season.
  • Turner snagged her 13th double-double of the season and 16th of her career after compiling 38 assists and 11 digs against CSUDH.
  • With this win, CSUSM has evened the series while playing in the Torodome to 3-3.
  • Regarding the all-time series, the Cougars raised their lead over the Toros to 8-4.
