Cougars Serve Up Sweep at Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team served Stanislaus State off the court on Friday night by recording a season-high 12 aces in the CCAA sweep over the Warriors in Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After trailing a majority of the set, the Cougars evened the score at 20-all on a Stephanie Adams service ace.
  • CSUSM ended the first set at 25-23 with an ace by Turner.
  • The second set was a different story as the Cougars jumped out to a 4-1 lead.
  • The Warriors came back and evened it at 5-all.
  • A Jackie Phillips ace gave CSUSM a 13-9 lead.
  • CSUSM pulled away with a 6-3 run to give the Cougars a 19-12 lead, forcing a Warrior timeout.
  • Stan State charged back to make it a 22-17 game, but a pair of kills by Ridgeway followed by an Adams kill gave CSUSM a 25-19 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Before the Cougars could blink, they were trailing 5-0 in the third set to the Warriors.
  • The Cougars came roaring back to even the set at 7-all on a Vander Weide ace.
  • From that point, there would be 10 ties and four lead changes before a Doering kill would put CSUSM up 20-19.
  • The Cougars ended the set with a 5-2 run to clinch the sweep with a 25-21 third-set victory.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM moves up to 11-8 on the season and 8-5 in CCAA action.
  • Stan State drops to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
  • With the win, the sixth-place Cougars have a two-match lead over the Warriors in the CCAA standings and are only one match behind fifth-place Sonoma State.
  • The top six teams at the end of the season will advance to the 2021 CCAA Championships in San Bernardino on Nov. 18-20.
  • The Cougars now hold a 6-3 lead in the all-time series and evened the series at 2-2 when playing in Turlock.  
  • The Cougars' 12 aces against Stan State are the most in the NCAA Division II era.
  • The 12 aces also tied for the most in a three-set match within the CCAA this season. On Oct. 13, Stan State tallied 12 aces in its sweep against Chico State.
  • Cordero-Barr recorded 18 digs – the 10th time this season she's ended a match with 15 or more.
  • Turner recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 27 assists and 10 digs.
