COURSE REPORT: The Cal State San Marcos men's cross country team placed third at the CCAA Championships hosted on CSUSM's campus on Saturday morning.

Kibrom Elias finished in the top 15 to claim All-CCAA honors.
FINISH LINE
- Shea Vavra collected his third All-CCAA honor (2017, 2019) with a third-place finish in the CCAA Championships in a field of 80 runners.
- Kibrom Elias shaved exactly 10 seconds off his time to place 14th in a time of 25:09.9.
- Competing in his first CCAA Championships and just missing out on all-conference honors, Nick Melanese placed 17th with a time of 25:23.3.
- Also making their conference championship debuts, Mitch Machuca and Dylan Brown took 30th place (25:47.5) and 33rd place (25:52.3), respectively.
- Chico State claimed its 19th consecutive CCAA Men's Cross Country Championship with eight Wildcats finishing in the top 12.
- Brayden McLaughlin of Chico State was the CCAA individual medalist with a time of 24:43.0 after taking runner-up honors at the Cougar Challenge.
- Cal Poly Pomona narrowly beat out CSUSM for second place, finishing with 83 points while the Cougars collected 88 points.
ELITE 13 HONOR
Formerly known as the Championship Scholar, the Elite 13 award is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the CCAA Championships. CSUSM's own
Trevor Boaz is the 2021 CCAA Elite 13 for Cross Country Award winner.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Cougars will be off for two weeks preparing for the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Oregon, on Nov. 6. The regionals will take place at the Ash Creek Preserve on the campus of Western Oregon.
