Cougars Fall in Three at CSULA

LOS ANGELES – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in three sets (17-25, 22-25, 20-25) to Cal State LA in CCAA action on Friday night at University Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set had six tie scores with CSULA coming out on top for all but one of them.
  • The Golden Eagles tallied five blocks in the opening set to CSUSM's one.
  • CSULA broke away at the 8-all mark with a 9-4 run.
  • The Cougars cut CSULA's lead to 17-15 on a Ridgeway kill.  
  • CSULA closed out the first set with five unanswered points to win 25-17.
  • The Cougars quickly found themselves down 7-1 in the second set and played catchup the rest of the set.
  • CSUSM came within one at 23-22 on a Stephanie Adams ace, but CSULA put back-to-back kills down to clinch the win.
  • The Golden Eagles put together a .368 hitting percentage (18k-4e-38ta) in the second frame to claim the 25-22 win.
  • CSUSM came out strong in the third set, taking a 5-3 lead on a Doering ace to force an early CSULA timeout.
  • The Golden Eagles once again went on a run to take a 12-8 lead.
  • CSULA never allowed the Cougars to come within three for the rest of the set, recording the sweep with a 25-20 set win.
