LOS ANGELES – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team put up a valiant effort against No. 13 Cal State LA, but a second-half goal resulted in the Cougars taking a 1-0 loss to the Golden Eagles on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Track.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars held the 13th-ranked Golden Eagles scoreless in the first half as CSULA put up six shots to CSUSM's three. Both sides had one shot on goal while the Cougars had a 2-1 advantage for corner kicks.
- In the 66th minute, the CSUSM defense tried to thwart the pressure put on by the CSULA offense in the box, but a chance to clear to the ball ricocheted back into the box off a Golden Eagle attacker. With the ball rolling towards the end line, Solli recovered it and made a diagonal pass through traffic to Bjoershol. From the penalty kick marker, Bjoershol's shot went into the left corner of the net and gave CSULA a 1-0 lead.
