HOW IT HAPPENED
- The scoring got underway early as CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Taking possession in CSUSM territory, Alvarez took a long drive up the middle of the field before making a forward pass to Cuccia. Just in front of the box, Cuccia took control and blew past the last two SF State defenders before taking a low shot to the bottom right corner of the goal.
- In the ninth minute, Ferrari's corner kick from the left side found Kippe, who headed the ball into the center of the net from just right of the post and tied the game at 1-all.
- CSUSM went up 2-1 in the 34th minute. Salazar put a free kick in motion five yards outside the top right corner of the box. The ball sailed into the box before Collazos headed it over the keeper and into the center of the goal from six yards away.
- After receiving a free kick, the Cougars' Olivares put up a cross from the far-left side of the box. Collazos took the shot off the pass from just in front of the goal on the right side and into the right corner of the net to put CSUSM up 3-1 in the 52nd minute.
- The Cougars took a three-goal lead in the 77th minute thanks to a low cross from Patterson on the far-right side that connected with a sliding shot into the left corner of the net by Cuccia from six yards away.
