SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Juniors
Clarissa Garcia and
Marina McDonough and freshman
Sierra Roberson were named CCAA Women's Track & Field All-Stars by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
With the global COVID-19 pandemic suspending and subsequently ending the 2019-20 college athletics season in mid-March, it became an impossibility to properly bestow all-conference honors for spring sports. As a result, the CCAA announced the first, and hopefully last, CCAA All-Star Team, in a fun effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments across the league during the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
Â
In the abbreviated season, Garcia ran the fastest 800-meter run in Division II at 2:15.52. The San Diego native also recorded the second-fastest 1500-meter time in the nation at 4:36.87 – the seventh-fastest mark in program history.
Â
McDonough posted the fastest 1500-meter time in Division II this season at 4:36.87. The San Clemente native's time currently ranks sixth in program history.
Â
In her lone meet as a CSUSM freshman, Roberson put up the fastest 400-meter time in the CCAA this season at 57.56 – fifth fastest in Division II. The San Diego native's time currently ranks 10th in the CSUSM record book.
The list of 32 student-athletes mirrors the championship roster size for CCAA track & field, and is not bound by specific events. All 13 programs were guaranteed one representative to showcase talent across the league. These standout performers were submitted for consideration by the league's women's track & field sports information contacts.
