SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team completed a non-conference sweep over Concordia Portland by scores of 10-0 (five innings) and 7-3 on Friday afternoon at the CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Andelin led off the game with a single up the middle, and Gianna Lombardi followed with a double to load the bases. On a 3-1 count, Ponce crushed a home run over the right center field wall to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the opening frame.
- Forstie began the second inning with a single to left field, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mayca Brown before scoring on Silas' sac fly to center to make it 4-0.
- Callais hit a one-out double in the bottom of the third and traded places on Cherise Horita's RBI double to right center field. Wood's RBI single down the left field line plated Horita before she came home on an RBI single to left field by Silas. CSUSM's final run of the inning came on a bases loaded walk by Lombardi to make it 8-0.
- CSUSM's two runs in the bottom of the fourth came on a CUP error.

- The Cougars improved to 6-10 overall while the Cavaliers dropped to 11-7 on the year.
- Ponce (3-5) tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing six hits while striking out one batter.
- CUP starter Kate Gillum went 2.1 innings, relinquishing six runs on seven hits. Allie Hancock entered in relief for 1.2 innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits.
- Ponce's home run was her first of the season and raised CSUSM's season total to 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second after tallying five runs and taking advantage of a CUP error. Callais got things started with a double down the right field line and immediately scored on Cherise Horita's single up the middle. After a two-out single by Paredez and passed-ball strikeout by Silas loaded the bases, CSUSM emptied them on a Cavalier error.
- The Cougars got two insurance runs on Wood's two-run homer to dead center in the third to make it 7-0.
- CUP's Kennedy Jantzi hit a solo home run in the fourth before recording a two-run homer in the sixth to cut the Cavaliers' deficit to 7-3.
- Hoskin retired the side with two flyouts and a popup along the third-base foul area. Â

- The Cougars (7-10) matched their 2019 home win record of four victories just 17 games into the season.
- In her first collegiate win, Hoskin tallied a season-best eight strikeouts while going a full game in the circle for the first time this season.
