NR/RV CSUSM Collects Seventh Consecutive Win With 66-35 Victory at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – The NR/RV Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team extended its win streak to seven games by claiming the Cougars' 21st win of the season with a 66-35 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory at Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday night in the Otter Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars got off to a hot start, taking a 10-2 lead into the first media timeout of the game.
  • CSUSM held the Otters to just three buckets in the first quarter while shooting 61.5% (8-of-13) from the field for a 19-6 lead.
  • The Cougars ended the first half with a 33-16 lead, shooting 60.9% (14-of-23) while holding the Otters to only 25.9% (7-of-27).
  • Behind the 3-point line in the first half, CSUSM went 2-of-5 (40.0%) while CSUMB finished with 1-of-7 (14.3%).
  • The Cougars held the Otters to just six points in the third quarter and took a 50-22 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • A second-chance layup by Vermillion lifted the Cougars to a 60-30 lead with 5:11 remaining in the game.
  • CSUSM outscored the Otters in every quarter, finishing the night with a 16-13 advantage in the final 10 minutes.
 
FAST BREAKS
  • CSUSM improves to 22-4 (16-4 CCAA) while CSUMB drops to 6-15 (6-13 CCAA).
  • The win secures a top-two finish for CSUSM in the CCAA standings as the Cougars are one game behind conference leader UC San Diego and three and a half games ahead of third-place Cal State East Bay.
  • The Cougars hold a 7-2 lead in the all-time series and are 3-2 on the road against the Otters.
  • With the win, CSUSM has collected a program-best six season sweeps this season as the Cougars defeated CSUMB in San Marcos 73-48 on Jan. 4.
  • CSUSM led wire-to-wire for the second time against the Otters this season.
  • The Cougars recorded their largest win margin in the Otter Sports Center at 31 points, as the previous victories in Seaside were eight points (57-49) on Jan. 13, 2018 and six points (58-52) on Jan. 7, 2017.
  • For the eighth time this season, the Cougars shot 50% or above from the field, finishing the night at 51.0% (25-of-49).
  • The Cougars held CSUMB to a 26.4 field-goal percentage, the second lowest of the season with the first coming against the Otters on Jan. 4.
  • CSUSM's 50.0% (8-of-16) from beyond the arc tied the Cougars' fourth-best 3-point field-goal percentage of the season.
  • The Cougars recorded a season-best 14 steals while forcing a season-high 23 turnovers.
  • CSUMB's 35 points were the lowest by a CSUSM opponent this season and tied a school record set during CSUSM's inaugural season on Feb. 11, 2012 against La Sierra.
  • Vermillion fell just two rebounds shy of her seventh double-double of the season.
  • Hackson notched her seventh consecutive double-digit scoring performance of the season.
