IRVINE, Calif. – A late seventh-inning rally fell just short as the Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped a 6-5 decision to Biola in the Concordia Irvine Kickoff Classic on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles got a runner to third in the first frame, but solid pitching by Zoe Ballen got CSUSMÂ out of the jam by forcing a flyout to right field.
- Horita got CSUSM on the board at 1-0 in the bottom of the third. Horita crushed a triple over the Eagle first baseman to right to plate Bianca Gutierrez, who reached base after a two-out single through the right side.
- The Eagles evened the game at 1-all in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI-double by Kylie Velasco.
- Biola took its first lead of the game at 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Sicili Brittingham after she reached on a leadoff double.
- With the bases loaded, Lombardi knocked an RBI single to center field to even the game at 2-all.
- After a Biola double and single to begin the top of the sixth, Velasco recorded a sac fly to give the Eagles back the lead at 3-2. A two-RBI double by Morinishi extended the Eagles'Â lead to 5-2.
- Biola added another run in the seventh on Meriales' one-out RBI single up the middle.
- In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back singles by Lombardi and Andrea Wood followed by a walk by Abby Callais loaded the bases with one out. Kayla Mack emptied the bases on a single and Biola error to make it 6-5. A pair of ground outs gave the win to Biola.
