SAN MARCOS, Calif. – A one-out walk-off homer by senior catcher
Andrew Garcia in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Cal State San Marcos baseball team an 8-7 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener on Friday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the second inning, an RBI bunt single by Luna scored Combs before a double steal scored Schuberg from third to give CSUSM a 2-0 lead.
- After the Toros reached on a Cougar throwing error, Aaron Greenfield hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to knot the game at 2-all.
- CSUDH's Nick Henry hit a one-out two-run homer to right center in the top of the sixth inning before two more runs scored on a throwing error and wild pitch to give the Toros their first lead of the day at 6-2.
- CSUSM bounced back to retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth with five runs on RBI singles by Garcia, Combs and Schuberg and a two-RBI double to left by Diaz.
- A sacrifice fly to center field by Henry scored Joe Canepa to knot the game at 7-all in the top of the seventh.
- CSUSM loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but a strikeout ended the inning with the game still tied at 7-7.
- With a 1-1 count and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Garcia connected on a pitch that landed over the left field wall to secure the victory for the Cougars.

- CSUSM improves to 2-5 (1-0 CCAA) while CSUDH drops to 1-6 (0-1 CCAA).
- Cougar reliever Jacob Miller (1-0) earned the win as he allowed just one walk in 2.0 innings while striking out one.
- Toro reliever Ricardo Serrano (1-2) took the loss as he gave up the walk-off homer while striking out one in two-thirds of an inning.
- This was CSUSM's first walk-off win since defeating Cal State East Bay in 11 innings on Feb. 17, 2019.
- Griffin Teisher's six-game hitting streak came to an end, but he extended his reached-base streak to seven games as he walked and scored a run.
- Teisher made his 101st career start, tying Jon Putnam (2012-16) for ninth most in program history.
