Runs Come Early as CSUSM Falls 5-2 to Dixie State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team took a 5-2 loss in the second game of its series against NR/RV Dixie State on Saturday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • DSU got the game started with a sacrifice fly to left by Cade Spurlin that scored Lane Pritchard for the early 1-0 lead.
  • CSUSM matched DSU with a sacrifice fly to left by Andrew Garcia to score Ellis and knot the game at 1-all in the bottom of the first inning.
  • A solo homer by Tyson Fisher and an RBI single to left by Pritchard gave the Trailblazers a 3-1 lead in the second.
  • Spurlin hit a solo shot to right in the third inning to give DSU a 4-1 lead.
  • On an 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the fourth, Luna hit an RBI single through the right side to score Luc Stuka and cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • The Trailblazers scored the final run of the game in the top of the fifth as Fisher singled through the right side to score Engel.
  • Tommy Garcia came on and threw four scoreless innings of relief for CSUSM.
