SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team began the 2019 season with a statement win over No. 25 Fresno Pacific as the Cougars took a 3-0 victory on Thursday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• A pass down the middle by Thaete allowed Hodges to run past the Sunbird defenders and put the ball into the right side of the net from just inside the box in the 10th minute.
• CSUSM went up 2-0 in the 33rd minute as Williamson scored on a ball in the middle of the box from Rafael into the left side of the net.
• With just under three minutes left in the game, a ball from Johnston allowed Williamson to score his second goal of the game on a ball from near the same location as his first.

 
QUICK KICKS

• This was the Cougars' first win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 12 Cal State LA by a score of 1-0 in 2016.
• The last time CSUSM had a player score at least two goals in a game was Josh Mendez as he posted a pair against Saint Martin's last season.
• Of the Cougars' 17 shots, nine were on goal.
• The Sunbirds committed 15 fouls to the Cougars' nine.
