HAYWARD – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team took care of business Saturday night with a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sweep at Cal State East Bay.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Back-to-back kills by Kassy Doering gave CSUSM a 15-9 lead in the opening set. The Pioneers closed the gap to three points, but CSUSM stepped up taking the first set at 25-19.
• The second set was tight at the beginning before the Cougars pulled away with a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Another 4-0 run that contained two kills by Kiora Ridgeway gave CSUSM the cushion they needed at 17-11. That set them up for a 25-22 win.
• The third and final set was all CSUSM thanks to the largest run of the night at 7-1, resulting in a commanding 23-13 lead.
• The Cougars' .292 hitting percentage was their highest of the season, thanks in part to committing only 15 attacking errors .

 
QUICK HITS

• The Cougars improve to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while the Pioneers drop to 1-9 overall, 0-2 in conference play. 
• With the win, CSUSM broke the home-venue win tradition and took command over the all-time series record at 4-3.
• The Cougars last faced the Pioneers in the first round of the 2018 CCAA Championships, falling to East Bay in four sets.
• CSUSM had the advantage in points (53-33), kills (46-27), aces (5-2), assists (43-26) and digs (54-39). The only category that the Pioneers led in was blocks (4-2).
