CSUSM Drops CCAA Opener at SF State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team forged past San Francisco State to take the opening set, but the Gators rallied to claim the final three frames to take the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match at 3-1 on Friday night in the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SF State went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead, but the Cougars fought back to even the opening set at 15-15 before collecting a 25-18 victory.
  • The Cougars stumbled a bit in the second set, falling 25-11 to the Gators. SF State evened the match at 1-1 after tallying a .556 hitting percentage.
  • CSUSM trailed by 20-14 before rallying back to cut the gap to 21-18 in the third set. The Gators took a 2-1 lead after snagging a 25-18 win.
  • SF State took a quick early lead, forcing the Cougars to play catch up the entire fourth set before the Gators clinched the match with a 25-15 win.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars fall to 6-4 overall while the Gators move up to 8-2 on the season.
  • Friday's match was the CCAA opener for both teams.
  • Both squads had similar stats in all categories except attack errors with the Gators coming out on top with eight to CSUSM's 25.
  • CSUSM limited their serving errors to three while SF State finished with 14 in the match.
