CSUSM Drops Pair Against Stanislaus State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell in both games of Friday's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader to Stanislaus State by scores of 6-4 and 3-0. The Cougars held the Warriors to 12 scoreless frames, allowing runs in only the first and last innings of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warriors put up six runs in the first frame, highlighted by Maya Yoshiura's two-run home run.
  • All four CSUSM runs came in the second inning.
  • Calderon got things started with an RBI single down the left line to score Newhouser, who reached on a walk.
  • Melody Forstie drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-2.
  • Kymmie Woken, who also reached on a walk, scored on a fielder's choice.
  • CSUSM's final run came on a double steal by Ronni Silas while Calderon plated to make it 6-4.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars fall to 6-11 overall and 5-10 in CCAA play while the Warriors move to 10-14, 6-11 in conference action.
  • Carly Slack took the loss after 0.1 innings of work, relinquishing six runs (five earned).
  • Stan State's Megan Stacy collected the win in relief after going 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits, walking three and registering three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh when Stan State pushed three runs across. 
  • Desiree Gonzalez's sacrifice fly was sandwiched between RBI singles by Lia Tom and Joerdan Lovell.

  • CSUSM drops to 6-12 overall and 5-11 in conference action while Stan State improves to 11-14, 7-11 in CCAA play.
  • Caitlin Vinyard took the loss despite tossing six shutout innings and allowing no earned runs as all three runs in the seventh occurred after a CSUSM error.
