Cougars Drop Doubleheader to San Francisco State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped both games of its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader against San Francisco State by scores of 4-3 and 4-2 on Friday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.

Andrew Cowell – 3-for-4 | 1 RBI | 1 R

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the second, Cowell singled through the left side to score Tanoue and put the Cougars up 1-0.
  • A two-out error in the bottom of the fourth by SFSU allowed Tanoue to score his second run of the game and increase CSUSM's lead to 2-0.
  • The Gators gained a run back in top of the fifth as Jason Hare doubled and advance to third on the throw home as Antone Self scored.
  • An RBI single by Shaq Robinson in the top of the sixth scored Harley Lopez and knotted the game at 2-all.
  • The Cougars regained the lead with an RBI single by Van Til in the bottom of the sixth and put CSUSM back on top at 3-2.
  • SFSU tied the game at 3-all in the top of the seventh as Riley Clearly hit an RBI single through the left side to score Hare.
  • A throwing error on an attempted double play ball in the top of the eighth allowed Robinson to score and put the Gators up 4-2.

  • CSUSM dropped to 10-5 (6-3 CCAA) while SFSU improved to 6-0-1 (4-0 CCAA).
  • Troy Lamparello (0-1) took the loss for the Cougars as he pitch 1.2 innings of relief with one strikeout while allowing one run on three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Ott hit a deep sacrifice fly to center and allowed Van Til to come home.
  • Right after Ott's sac fly, Bahna hit an RBI double to right center as Buck scored from first base.
  • The Gators tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth as Shaq Robinson hit a sac fly to center before Collin Gabel hit an RBI single down the right field line.
  • SFSU took its first lead of the game in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single up the middle by Riley Cleary.
  • The Gators capped off the game's scoring with an infield RBI single by Brady Dorn.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars dropped to 10-6 (6-4 CCAA) while the Gators earned a share of the series and improved to 7-0-1 (5-0 CCAA).
  • Garrett Apker (1-1) took the loss for the Cougars as he threw five innings, struck out five and allowed three runs on five hits, three walks and one hit-by-pitch.
