Second-Half Surge Lifts CPP Over CSUSM

POMONA, Calif. –  A second-half blitz by Cal Poly Pomona doomed the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team as it suffered an 88-55 defeat in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the game on a strong note with a 14-4 lead with 12:20 remaining in the first half.
  • The Broncos took their first lead of the game at 25-24 with 4:04 remaining in the first half after a 3-pointer by Phoenix Shackleford.
  • A 3-pointer by Dalton Soffer rounded out the first half and gave CSUSM a 31-29 lead heading into the break.
  • The Cougars shot 52.6 percent (10-of-19) in the period while holding the Broncos to 36.4 percent (8-of-22).
  • The second half was a much different story as CPP exploded out of the gates with a 21-2 run in the first four minutes of the period.
  • The Broncos took their largest lead of the game at 86-45 with 2:21 remaining in the game and outscored the Cougars 59-24 in the second half.
 
FAST BREAKS
  • CSUSM drops to 5-17 (2-14 CCAA) while CPP improves to 14-5 (12-5 CCAA).
  • Fuller led both sides with eight rebounds.
  • Turnovers plagued the Cougars as they committed 27 to the Broncos' 13.
  • CPP's Williams Christmas led the game with 21 points while teammate Jordan Ogundiran came up one steal shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine steals.
