Cougars Fall 7-5 at CSUDH

CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 7-5 to Cal State Dominguez in the second game of its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series on Saturday afternoon at Toro Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Toros got the scoring started in the bottom of the second as Domenic Colacchio hit an RBI single to center.
  • CSUDH took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning as Joe Canepa scored on an RBI single by Colacchio before he also scored on a passed ball.
  • A two-RBI single by Van Til in the top of the fifth narrowed the gap to 3-2.
  • After CSUDH's Grant Decatrel scored on a fielding error, Pierson Loska hit a three-run homer to center to put the Toros up 7-2.
  • With a Buck on third with two outs in the top of the sixth, a wild pitch allowed him to score and cut the deficit to 7-3.
  • After Van Til got on base with a leadoff walk in the top of the eighth, an RBI fielder's choice by Buck allowed Van Til to score from third and narrow the game to 7-4.
  • The Cougars once again tried to make a late rally happen in the ninth, but could only plate one run on an RBI-bunt single bt Van Til.
 
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM drops to 8-4 (4-2 CCAA) while CSUDH improves to 2-5 (1-5 CCAA).
  • Mike Lopez (2-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) and eight hits while striking out two in four innings of work.
  • The Toros' Humberto Chiquito earned the win after striking out two and allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings.

The Cougars and Toros will now head to San Marcos to finish the series with a doubleheader set to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.
