SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team began California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play by splitting its doubleheader against Cal State East Bay on Saturday at CSUSM Baseball Field. The Cougars earned an 18-2 win in the first game before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars got the scoring started in the bottom of the third as Teisher scored from third on a throwing error to first base.
- CSUSM made it 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a two-RBI triple by Rodriguez, a run by Teisher on an error in left field and an RBI single by Diggs.
- In the bottom of the fifth, CSUSM made it 6-0 with a sacrifice fly by Garcia.
- The Pioneers finally got on the board with an RBI double by Steve Robinson.
- The Cougars' put the game out of reach in the seventh by scoring 10 runs. The inning was highlighted by Diggs' first home run of his career – a three-run blast to left center.
- CSUSM scored for the final time in the bottom of the eight with two runs on RBI singles from Andrew Cowell and Garcia.
- The Pioneers posted their second run of the game in the top of the ninth as Brock Bueno scored on a fielding error.

- Lopez (2-0) earned the win for the Cougars after striking out nine batters in five innings of work while allowing just three hits and two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUEB put up a five spot in the top of the third on six hits and an error.
- CSUSM narrowed the gap to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Austin Ott and an RBI single by Buck.
- The Pioneers plated a run in the top of the ninth to go up 6-2 after an RBI single by Adam Hollar.
- The Cougars made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth as Bahna belted a three-run jack over the left field wall with no outs. CSUSM then went down in order to end the game.
