SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 19/11 Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team dropped its first game of the 2019-20 season, falling 55-49 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play to Sonoma State on Thursday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was knotted at 9-all after the first quarter with both teams spreading out their nine points among four players.
- CSUSM took its largest lead of the first half at 18-11 on a Vermillion jumper at 6:57 in the second quarter.
- The Cougars held a 24-23 lead at the halftime break.
- CSUSM opened the third quarter with a 7-0 run, but the Seawolves answered with their own run of 9-0 to take a 32-31 lead at 4:39.
- The Cougars trailed 40-36 at the end of the third quarter.
- A pair of free throws by Stephanie Custodio closed the gap to 48-47Â at the 3:56 mark of the fourth quarter.
- Buckner drained a jumper in the paint to cut the deficit to 50-49 with 1:27 remaining.
- SSU's Ugochi Anudokem connected on a jumper to put the Seawolves up 52-49 with 20 seconds remaining.
- Sophie Northern made the backend of her free throw to extend SSU's lead to 53-49 with 13 seconds on the clock.
- Kim Savio's two free throws to make it 55-49 sealed the deal for SSU with six seconds remaining in the game.
