No. 24/16 CSUSM's Strong Start Clinches Win at Pomona

POMONA, Calif. – A big first quarter lifted the No. 24/16 Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team to a 71-54 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win over Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday night at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After 10 minutes of play, CSUSM led 25-11 with Hackson sinking 11 points.
  • The Cougars took a 40-25 lead into the locker room after connecting on six 3-pointers.
  • CSUSM shot 46.7% from the field in the first 20 minutes.
  • The Broncos went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut CSUSM's lead to 53-43 with eight minutes remaining.
  • CPP cut its deficit to eight points on a Dominique Dotson 3-pointer with 5:45 remaining in the game.
  • The Cougars closed out the game with a 17-8 run to clinch the victory at 71-54.
 
FAST BREAKS
  • CSUSM improves to 9-1 (4-1 CCAA) while CPP fall to 6-5 (2-3 CCAA).
  • With the win, CSUSM moves into third place alongside UC San Diego in the CCAA standings. Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State sit on top of the standings with a 5-1 conference record.
  • The Cougars shot 43.8% from the field while holding the Broncos to 35.7%.
  • CPP outrebounded the Cougars, 38-31.
  • The Cougars led wire-to-wire with their largest lead coming in the final 17 seconds at 71-52.
  • CSUSM tallied 14 points off fast breaks while scoring 20 points off CPP's 15 turnovers.
  • Forrester's 23 points and six 3-pointers were both career highs.
