LOS ANGELES – A 3-point field goal with three seconds remaining put No. 23/21 Concordia Irvine past the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team by a score of 68-66 on Saturday night at Cal State LA Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSMÂ posted 10 consecutive points to take a 14-9 lead with 10:27 remaining.
- After a field goal in the paint by Gil-Fernandez, the Cougars took their largest lead of the game at 20-12 with 7:33 remaining in the first period.
- A 3-pointer by CUI's Kayle Knuckles with 3:09 left in the first half knotted the game at 24-all, but CSUSM went on an 8-0 run to go up 32-24 with just over a minute remaining.
- The Eagles' Jamel White made a three as time expired to cut the Cougars' lead to 34-32 at halftime.
- Elliott went to the locker room with 12 points and seven rebounds as the Cougars shot 34.2% (13-for-38) from the field compared to the Eagles' 34.4% (11-for-32).
- CUI took its largest lead of the game at 58-52 after Robert McCoy made a three with 5:59 remaining in the game.
- With the Eagles up by six, the Cougars then went on a 10-0 run that was capped off by a Goudeau layup with 2:02 left.
- Following a layup by CUI's Darius Lee that gave the Eagles a 65-64 lead with 17 seconds remaining, Bryce Sloan made a layup to retake the lead for CSUSM at 66-65 with 14 ticks on the clocks.
- After a CUI timeout with five seconds remaining, White made a three with three seconds left to give the Eagles a 68-66 win.

- CSUSM falls to 1-1 while CUI improves to 4-1.
- In his second collegiate game, redshirt freshman Jayce McCain broke the CSUSM single-game record for steals with nine. The previous record of eight was set by Danny Redmon in 2011 against Concordia Irvine.
- Both teams shot 37.7% from the field as CSUSM went 26-for-69 while CUI went 23-for-61.
- The Eagles were 11-for-27 (40.7%) from three while the Cougars went 3-for-13 (23.1%).
- CUI racked up nine blocked shots for the game as five Eagles finished the game with at least one.
- Elliott's 20 points and 13 rebounds led both categories as he tallied his seventh career double-double. His 13 rebounds tied the career high he set against Cal State East Bay last season.
- CSUSM maintains a 5-4 lead in the all-time series against CUI and are 1-1 in neutral site games.
