LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball made history on Thursday night as it defeated No. 6/6 UC San Diego 69-63 at RIMAC Arena. The win was the Cougars' first over a ranked opponent as a member of the NCAA, and it was their first-ever victory against the Tritons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM ended the first quarter with a 14-12 lead over UCSD as Custodio led the quarter with eight points.
- The Cougars went 3-of-5 from three in the first 10 minutes while going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
- Only two of CSUSM's 14 points in the first period came from inside the paint while the Cougars tallied five second-chance points to the Tritons' zero.
- Down 21-20 with 6:07 remaining second quarter, CSUSM began a 7-0 run that was capped off by a Forrester jumper.
- After UCSD's Brianna Claros brought the Tritons' deficit down to 27-25 with a jumper, CSUSM's Vermillion nailed a jumper of her own with 1:41 remaining in the half to put the Cougars up by four.
- The Cougars went to the locker room with a 29-25 lead.
- CSUSM outrebounded UCSD 22-8 in the first 20 minutes, but the Cougars committed 10 turnovers to the Tritons' four.
- The Cougars shot 36.0% (9-of-25) from the field in the first half while the Tritons shot just a little better at 37.9% (11-of-29).
- CSUSM ended the third quarter with its largest lead so far at 48-40 after shooting 61.5% (8-of-13) in the period compared to UCSD's 54.5% (6-of-11).
- At the end of the third quarter, Hackson led CSUSM with 13 points.
- The Cougars took their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter with 7:55 remaining as Forrester drained a three to give CSUSM a 55-42 lead.
- With just less than five minutes remaining, the Tritons cut the deficit to single digits at 55-48 with a 6-0 run.
- CSUSM maintained a lead of at least five points for the rest of the game.

- CSUSM improves to 4-0 (2-0 CCAA) while UCSD falls to 3-1 (0-1 CCAA).
- The Cougars controlled the lead for just over 35 minutes while the Tritons led for just over two minutes.
- CSUSM outrebounded UCSD 36-19.
- The Cougars ended the game shooting 42.2% (19-of-45) from the field while the Tritons shot 41.7% (25-of-60).
- Hackson played all 40 minutes of the contest.
