CSUSM Posts 3-0 Shutout Against Humboldt State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team poured on the goals while shutting out Humboldt State by a score of 3-0 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as Salazar took a low shot to the bottom left corner of the goal from the right side after receiving a pass from Koptieff.
  • In the 56th minute, Schrock took a shot from just outside the top of the box that hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal.
  • The Cougars capped off the scoring in the 70th minute. After Corbin Thaete sailed a pass into the box that went off a Lumberjack defender, Humphreys gathered the ball and took a low shot from the top right corner of the box. The shot went just past the keeper and into the bottom left corner.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • CSUSM improved to 4-6-2 (2-2-2 CCAA) while HSU dropped to 5-5 (1-4 CCAA).
  • Salazar broke the CSUSM single-season record for shot attempts as he ended the game with 49 on the year. Former record holder Greg Reese took 45 shots in 2008 for the Cougars.
  • This was the Cougars' third shutout performance of the season.
  • Despite being outshot 11-9 in the second half, CSUSM held a 19-14 advantage for the game.
  • Both sides took five corner kicks for the game.
  • CSUSM held possession for 61% of the game and held the ball in HSU territory for 53% percent of the time.
  • The Cougars are now 3-2 in the all-time series against the Lumberjacks as they snapped a two-game losing streak to HSU.

CSUSM will play the fifth game of its six-game homestand on Friday as it welcomes Stanislaus State to The Cage for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
