SAN RAMON, Calif. –– After leading Cal State San Marcos to a team victory, senior
Shelby Eberwein has been named CCAA Runner of the Week for Sept. 17-23.
The Yucaipa native finished fourth out of a field of 212 runners at the CSUSB Coyote Challenge, which gave athletes a taste of the 2018 CCAA Cross Country Championships course. Eberwein clocked in at 17:52.8 over the 5,000-meter distance, crossing the line as the top runner for the Cougars for the first time in her collegiate career. As a team, Cal State San Marcos finished with 68 points en route to their meet title.
Eberwein is CSUSM's second student-athlete to earn CCAA Runner of the Week in program history. Former NCAA All-American in both cross country and track & field,
Natalie Rodriguez earned the honor three times in 2016.
Next, Eberwein and the Cougars take to the course at Lewis University's Conference Cross-Over in Romeoville, Ill., on Oct. 6.
