Cougars Take 3-2 Loss in Overtime at UCSD

LA JOLLA, Calif. – After overcoming a 2-0 deficit to send the game into overtime, the No. 19 Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team took its first loss of the season by a score of 3-2 after No. 23 UC San Diego netted the golden goal just over a minute into the extra period on Friday night at Triton Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jones scored his first goal with a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net from the right side of the box in the 22nd minute to put the Tritons up 1-0.
  • A corner kick from the right side by Kristjansson was headed into the net by Jones at the near post to give him his second goal of the night in the 51st minute.
  • Martin posted his third goal of the season with a shot off the right foot into the bottom left corner of the net after getting help from Mendez and Salazar off a cross in the 79th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • Off a free kick by Morrison, Wagstaff evened the game by tapping the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for his first career goal just 56 seconds after Martin's goal.
  • Just over a minute into overtime, Stoop put the game away for UCSD with a header into the center of the net off a corner kick from the right side by Kristjansson.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • The Cougars' six-game winning streak comes to an end as they move to 6-1 overall on the year while the Tritons improve to 6-0-1.
  • CSUSM was outshot 7-3 in the first half, but it rallied back with an 8-5 advantage in the second half.
  • The Cougars had a 10-5 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Andrew Stalboerger had a team-high four shots for the Cougars.
