SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's and women's soccer teams kickoff their 2018 schedule this Thursday on the road and at home, respectively. Both teams return for another match at home on Saturday, while CSUSM volleyball takes to the road competing in the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase hosted by Concordia-Irvine.

- The Wolves are picked to finish eighth in the 2018 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Preseason Soccer Coaches Poll after finishing their 2017 campaign with a 3-11-2 overall record and 2-8-2 in GNAC action.
- This will be the first meeting between the Cougars and the Wolves in program history.
- In the last 10 years, WOU has been winless against CCAA opponents with 10 losses and two ties.
DIXIE STATE SCOOP
- The Trailblazers were voted to finish fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll after concluding 2017 with an 8-5 RMAC record (12-6 overall).
- In their only meeting with the Cougars, Dixie State recorded a 2-0 victory in Salt Lake City on August 25, 2017.
- The Trailblazers will open their 2018 season on the road against Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Aug. 30.
THE RENNEISEN FILE
- Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his fifth year in charge of the women's program and 13th overall at CSUSM.
- Renneisen's 2017 squad was the first CSUSM team sport to compete in the CCAA postseason.
- Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
- As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 29-23-19 (.542) during his four years.

- After making the conference tournament last season, the Cougars have been picked to finish sixth in the 2018 CCAA Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Back-to-back women's soccer defending champions, UC San Diego has been tabbed to take the top spot in the CCAA for the third year in a row.

CONCORDIA IRVINE DETAILS
- The Eagles have been selected to finish second in the 2018 PacWest Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll after recording a 9-5-3 overall record and 7-3-2 PacWest record last season.
- In their first NCAA Division II victory in program history, the Cougars took down CUI, 2-1, in their season opener last season at The Cage.
- CSUSM is one of five CCAA schools that the Eagles will face this season.
BIOLA 4-1-1
- CSUSM will face another team with the nickname Eagles this week, a Biola team that has been picked to finish seventh in the PacWest Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll after concluding 2017 at 8-8-2 overall and 7-5-1 in conference.
- The Cougars earned a 2-1 road win over Biola in La Mirada last season.
- Biola opens its 2018 season at UC San Diego on Thursday, Aug. 30.
THE PULVERS FILE
- This season marks the 13th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
- He notched his 100th win as the men's head coach on Oct. 7, 2016 in a road victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.
- In 22 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 229-149-35 (.597) career record. He is 84-42-24 (.640) in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
- From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.

D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase Breakdown
- The Cougars will be facing Central Washington and Alaska-Anchorage for the first time in program history.
- CWU and UAA are both receiving votes in the 2018 AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll released Aug. 9.
- The Cougars dropped a four-set match to Notre Dame de Namur back in 2016 at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase when Cal State East Bay hosted.
PREVIOUS WEEK
- CSUSM went 2-0 on opening day of the 2018 Cougar Classic, registering a five-set thriller over Point Loma before recording a sweep against Indiana (Pa.).
- The Cougars fought hard against two Top 10 nationally-ranked opponents, No. 6 Lewis and No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney but fell in three and five sets, respectively.
- Junior Maddy Newcombe joined sophomores Micah Hébert and Kassy Doering on the 2018 Cougar Classic All-Tournament Team. It is Newcombe's third time earning the honor while Hébert collects her second accolade.
THE LEONARD FILE
- Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her eighth season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
- Leonard was CSUSM's first-ever CCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to a third place finish in the overall standings last season.
