SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team's lone highlight of the day was junior
Austin Ott's solo home run as the Cougars fell 11-1 to No. 26 UC San Diego on Friday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Prior to the first pitch, there was a short Senior Day ceremony honoring
Tyler Place and
Aidan Stinnett. Place notched a double in the contest while Stinnett was walked three times.
Sophomore
Anthony Rodriguez went 2-for-4. Ott recorded his fifth home run of the season, a line drive over the center field wall, in the eighth inning.
UCSD's Blake Baumgartner went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a double and a home run. Shay Whitcomb hit his second home run of the series, a solo shot in the second inning.
The game remained close until the final frame when the Tritons posted seven runs on four hits.
The Cougars will wrap up their 2018 campaign with a doubleheader at UC San Diego on Saturday, May 5. First pitch is slated for noon.
