SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team ended its series against Cal State Dominguez Hills on a high note, needing just six innings to earn a 9-1 victory over the Toros in the series finale. The Cougars fell 3-2 in eight innings in the twinbill opener on Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field.
Senior
Lindsay Cerulle went 5-for-7 with a double and sacrifice bunt on the day. Junior
Skie Munoz collected the win after striking out three batters in her six innings in the circle.
The Cougars continue their homestand next week, hosting Cal State East Bay at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 13.
GAME 1: CSUDH 3 – CSUSM 2 (8 innings)
For the third time this series, the Toros struck first when Kayla Lock crushed a RBI double up the middle in the third inning.
CSUDH made it a 2-0 game in the sixth by scoring on a CSUSM error.
The Cougars put together a seventh-inning rally to even the game at 2-2. Senior
Sara Langdon doubled down the left line off the third baseman's foot to begin the inning. Freshman
Raven LeClair singled down the opposite line to put runners on the corners. Cerulle laid down a safety squeeze to score Langdon. CSUSM tied the game on an CSUDH error, forcing the game into extra innings.
The Toros pushed a run across after putting together three runs in the top of the eighth for the win.
Forstie went 3-for-4 for the game.
GAME 2: CSUSM 9 – CSUDH 1 (6 innings)
CSUSM collected its first run-rule of the 2018 season with five runs on two outs in the sixth. Sophomore
Abby Callais hit a 2-RBI double to left center and sophomore
Melody Forstie went opposite field with her RBI double. CSUSM final run came on sophomore
Karen Roman's single up the middle.
The Cougars got things started with senior
Karla Bernal's RBI single that plated Forstie who led off the second with a single.
In the third, Forstie crushed her first collegiate home run with a three-run blast over the left field wall to make it 4-0.
The Toros scored a run in the top of the fourth on three singles.
