LOS ANGELES – Senior
Aidan Stinnett went 3-for-5 and drove in all four runs as the Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 5-4 at Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars drop to 17-23 overall and 12-22 in conference play. The Golden Eagles improve to 22-17, 19-15 in CCAA.
For the second consecutive game, CSUSM outhit CSULA, 13-9, while stranding 10 on the bases.
The Golden Eagles capitalized on a CSUSM error, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third that included a three-run homer by Spencer Sundahl.
Senior
Tyler Place led off the fourth with a walk and Stinnett followed with a home run to right center to cut CSULA's lead to 4-2.
In the fifth, Stinnett doubled off the center field wall to score Place who reached on a walk again to make it 4-3.
CSUSM evened the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh by playing small ball. Three consecutive singles by freshman
Michael Lopez, junior
Cabot Van Til and Place loaded the bases for Stinnett to drive one to right field for an RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Golden Eagles got a two-out walk-off single by Sundahl to clinch the 5-4 win.
Junior starting pitcher
Mike Lopez went six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and struck out three for a no-decision. Sophomore
Griffin Teisher (0-1) took the loss after entering the ninth in relief.
The win went to CSULA's George Alamillo after 2.2 shutout inning on the mound.
The Cougars will host the Golden Eagles in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 21 to wrap up their series. First pitch is slated for noon.
