SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader at San Francisco State, 11-3 and 12-5, on Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
Junior
Marcus Wilhite tallied three hits on the day, driving in a run and plating once.
The Cougars fall to 9-7 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Gators improve to 5-14, 5-9 CCAA.
Both teams will return to Maloney Field on Saturday, March 10 for a single, nine-inning game beginning at noon.
GAME 1: SF STATE 11 – CSUSM 3
The Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead after back-to-back doubles by junior
Austin Ott and Wilhite in the second inning.
SF State evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Jason Hare knocked a single through the right side, scoring Jackson Kritsch who was awarded first after being hit by a pitch.
The Gators put up five runs on three hits that included a 3-RBI triple by Connor Fidone in the fifth inning.
SF State scattered five runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Freshman
Joseph Bahna and senior
Tyler Place each recorded RBI singles in the ninth inning.
Junior
Taylor Greene (4-1) recorded his first loss of the season after 4.1 innings of work. He gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and recorded six strikeouts. SF State's Grant Vogenthaler (1-3) went seven innings, surrendering one run on four hits and walked three.
GAME 2: SF STATE 12 – CSUSM 5
The Gators put together an eight-run second inning after tallying seven hits including a 2-RBI triple by Brady Dorn.
CSUSM answered with four runs in the next frame, taking advantage of two Gator errors. Junior Jason Mellano led off with a single, moved into scoring position on a Bahna single. Mellano scored when
Michael Lopez's sacrifice bunt was ruled a SF State error. Bahna plated on a fielder's choice by Place. CSUSM's final two runs came on senior
Aidan Stinnett's 2-RBI single down the right field line.
The Gators posted a single run in each of the next five innings except the sixth to make it 12-4.

Domenic Antonacci lined a pinch-hit single to begin the ninth inning. He later scored on junior
Isaias Torres' single up the middle.

Troy Lamparello (3-2) took the loss after 1.1 innings on the hill, giving up eight runs on nine hits. SF State's Dillon Houser tossed a complete game with all five CSUSM runs being recorded as unearned.
