LeClair drew a walk to begin the nightcap and later came around to score on freshman Jaclyn Newhouser's single through the right side to give CSUSM a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars doubled their lead in the top of the second on Langdon's sacrifice bunt to third that scored senior Karla Bernal after she reached on a UCSD error to begin the inning.

UCSD scored when Maday was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third. CSUSM got out of the Triton rally with a double play to end the inning.
