Cougars Fall to Hot-Shooting Nighthawks, 77-62

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team couldn't contain the hot shooting of Northwest Nazarene as the Cougars fell 77-62 in the Oxford Suites Classic on Friday night on the campus of Concordia University (Ore.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars trailed for the majority of the first half until they took their first lead at 29-28 with 1:55 left to play after a jumper by Sniff.
  • CSUSM went to halftime with a 35-31 lead after shooting 31.3 percent (10-of-32) from the field and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the charity stripe.
  • Sniff led the Cougars with eight points in the first 20 minutes of play and was 6-of-6 from the foul line.
  • Despite shooting 52 percent (13-of-25) from the field in the first half, NNU struggled to make its free throws as it went 3-of-11.
  • NNU took the lead for good at 40-38 with 15:19 left in the second period.
  • After trailing by 11 at 53-42, the Cougars brought the deficit down to 54-53 after going on an 11-1 run.
  • The Nighthawks took their largest lead of the game at 75-61.
  • The Cougars were outscored 46-27 in the second half as the Nighthawks shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the field while CSUSM shot 33.3 percent (10-of-30).

  • The Cougars drop to 2-2 on the season while Northwest Nazarene improves to 2-0.
  • The Nighthawks had three players in double figures while Adonis Arms led the game with 19 points.
  • CSUSM had the advantage in rebounds (40-34) and free-throw percentage (81.0-42.9).
  • NNU finished the game shooting 57.7 percent (30-of-52) while CSUSM shot 32.2 percent (20-of-62).
