Cougars Drop Regular-Season Finale at Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. – An early two-goal deficit was too much to overcome as Cal State San Marcos women's soccer fell 2-1 in the regular-season finale at Stanislaus State on Saturday at Warrior Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivera put the Warriors up 1-0 in the 17th minute as she scored from right outside of the box after receiving a pass from Ortiz, who received the ball over the top from England.
  • After a long pass down the right side by Rivera, Ortiz beat three CSUSM defenders and put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from close range to go up 2-0 in the 39th minute.
  • After a Warrior foul just inside the box, Wilson put the Cougars on the board with her third goal of the season on a penalty kick into the top right corner of the net with 11 seconds remaining in the first half.
  • The Warriors held the Cougars to just three shots in the second half – only one of which was on goal.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • CSUSM ends the regular season with a record of 7-7-3 (6-4-2 CCAA) while Stanislaus finishes 2018 at 8-7-3 (4-6-2 CCAA).
  • The Cougars had the advantage in shots and corner kicks at 12-6 and 6-0, respectively.
  • Each side made three saves for the afternoon.
  • Madyson Brown had a game-high three shots for the Cougars.
  • Bailey Cockrill started the second half in goal for CSUSM – her first appearance since Sept. 8 against Point Loma.
  • This is the third consecutive season in which CSUSM has finished California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a winning record.
 
UP NEXT
The Cougars will enter the CCAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will travel to face No. 4 seed San Francisco State on Tuesday at Cox Stadium. The winner of the 3 p.m. contest will then travel to UC San Diego for a semifinal matchup on Friday.
