SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team hung on to snag an 81-79 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday night inside The Sports Center.
For the fourth time this season,
Ethan Alvano scored over 30 points. Tonight, the senior guard finished 11-of-17 from the field including 8-of-11 from the perimeter for a game-high 31 points in 38 minutes. As a team, CSUSM shot 45.6 percent from the field including 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from behind the arc.
With their third straight win, the Cougars improve to 14-3 overall and 9-2 in CCAA play while Stan State drops to 12-6, 7-5 CCAA.
CSUSM's largest lead of the night was 17 points with 19:36 to play in the second half. The Warriors quickly shortened the gap and would eventually take the lead on a Kyle Gouveia jumper to make it 69-68 with 6:57 left to play in regulation.
The score would remain tied at 78-78 before Alvano sunk a 3-pointer right in front of his team's bench for the eventual game-winner with just 19 seconds left on the clock. This is back-to-back games Alvano has had the game-winning shot.
Senior
Josh Spiers finished with 24 points and five rebounds in 38 minutes.
Vida Faniel led the Warriors with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
CSUSM is next in action when they travel to La Jolla to take on crosstown rival UC San Diego. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
