RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team took down California Baptist, 1-0, in nonconference action on Thursday afternoon at Lancer Field in Riverside, Calif.
Junior
Megan Pfrunder scored in the 89th minute following a costly CBU penalty. Pfrunder was able to work through a scramble inside the box and beat the CBU goalkeeper for her first goal of the season. Sophomore
Lauren Perry was given the assist on the play.
CSUSM (2-1-0) earns its first road win of the year while CBU (0-2-0) has dropped back-to-back matches to start 2017.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Bailey Cockrill did her part to keep the Lancers off the board with four total saves in the match, three coming in the first half. Leading the CSUSM charge was senior
Kayla Anderson along with sophomores
Madyson Brown and
Jessica Harloe with two shots apiece.
CBU edged CSUSM 10-9 in shots and the Cougars led the corner kick chances, 7-5, for the match. A one foul difference helped set up a free kick taken by Harloe that got serviced inside the box where initially Perry put a head on it but ultimately was put to the back off the net on a soft touch from Pfrunder.
The Cougars will head to La Mirada, Calif. on Saturday, Sept. 9
to take on Biola in their final nonconference match of the season. Kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
