POMONA, Calif. – For the second consecutive match, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball team earned a five-set California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory, this time at the hands of Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night in Kellogg Gym. The final scores were 25-22, 26-28, 17-25, 25-19 and 15-13.
With the victory, the Cougars improve to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Broncos fall to 6-7, 2-3 in CCAA action.
"This was a hard fought win against a very competitive and experienced Pomona team," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "We have been focusing on small incremental improvements in our game and it showed tonight in our composure and execution when we needed it. We are still building our overall game and look forward to playing in more competitive matches like tonight."

Faith Fortuné continues to close in on the CSUSM career block assist record, notching four in the match. She is now six away from passing Erin Talafus in the record books.
After cruising to a 25-22 win in the first set, the Cougars fought teeth and nails in the second set before eventually falling 28-26 to the Broncos.
CPP took control of the third set early and never looked back to earn a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.
The fourth set was all CSUSM as the Cougars only relinquished the lead once early on to the Broncos before pulling off a dominating 25-19 victory.
CSUSM fought hard in the fifth set, rattling off four consecutive points early to build a cushion and eventually earn the set win and match victory.
CPP's Jenna Goldsberry tallied a match-high 16 kills while Andrea Bosnic collected 13 kills and three aces.
The Cougars continue their short road trip with a stop at No. 24 Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, Sept. 30. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
