SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell to Chico State, 3-0, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Sunday, Sept. 17 at The Cage.
Chico State junior Jeremiah Egujie posted a hat trick with two of his goals coming just 14 seconds apart in the 21st minute of the match. Egujie completed the hat trick in the 65th minute as he avoided a defender while dribbling down the right side and released a blast off his left foot that finished inside the far post.
CSUSM falls to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in CCAA play while the Wildcats improve to 4-2-0, 2-0-0 CCAA.
The Cougars outshot Chico State 19-8 for the match and edged the Wildcats 7-3 in the corner kick battle as well but were unable to find the back of the net. Six different CSUSM players totaled at least two shots in the match. Freshman
Dante Longo led the Cougars with four shots.
The Cougars best chance to score came in the 69th minute as they had three chances from close but Chico goalkeeper, Damion Lewis came up consecutive huge saves to keep CSUSM out of the net. Lewis finished with eight saves in the match and helped lead the Wildcats to their second shutout of the season.
Chico State senior Frankie Palmer finished with two assists while Egujie totaled five shots to lead the Wildcats.
