SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team started their 2017 CCAA schedule with a 0-0 tie against Stanislaus State Friday, Sept. 15 at The Cage in San Marcos.
The Cougars move to 2-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in CCAA play. Stanislaus State is 2-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 in conference play following the draw.
CSUSM outshot Stanislaus State 8-6 in the first half but finished tied at 14 by the conclusion of the match. The Warriors won the corner kick battle 7-2 and forced CSUSM sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Franklin to make a career-high 10 saves on the afternoon.
Four Cougars all finished with multiple shots in the match. Senior
Victor Gonzalez, junior
Bryan Morrison and freshman
Dante Longo all finished with two shots each while freshman
Rodrigo Rodriguez led the team with three total shots, putting two on goal.
Junior Javier Cabellos and sophomore Joseph Mayorca both finished with three shots apiece to lead the charge for Stanislaus State. Senior goalkeeper Tomas Zajfert was credited with four saves in the match.
The Cougars will welcome CCAA opponent Chico State to The Cage on Sunday, Sept. 17. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
