Cougars Swept by Sonoma State in Weekend Series

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team dropped its series finale, 14-1, at Sonoma State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest on Sunday at Seawolf Field.

The Cougars fall to 12-13 on the season and 2-11 in CCAA action. The Seawolves improve to 11-8 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

Freshman center fielder Jose Osete went 2-for-4 with a double.

CSUSM could only muster one run on the day. Trailing 5-0 in the sixth inning, junior right fielder Colin Dvorak hit a one-out double to center field and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Seawolves jumped out quick, scoring five runs in the first frame that included a two-run home run by Jake Sahagian. Junior Alex Wall (2-2) settled down after the first inning, tossing four shutout frames before being relieved.

After CSUSM scored in the top of the sixth, Sonoma responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Seawolves tacked on two runs in the seventh and three additional runs in the eighth.

Aldo Severson (3-1) went 5.2 innings, relinquishing one run on three hits for the win.

The Cougars return home next weekend to host San Francisco State for a three-game CCAA series.
